Today my oldest child, Elizabeth, turns 33 and she currently is speaking to a national conference of school administrative assistants in Denver. Of course I am very proud of her accomplishments and that speaks to all of the reason to take care of my health, so I can enjoy more.
If you are newly diagnosed with prostate cancer, let me encourage you to be sure to choose a treatment option that will allow you the ability to enjoy your quality of life with your family.
There is treatment that allows a very good chance of doing just that.
Have a good Friday and Happy Birthday Elizabeth!! I love you.
Blessings,
Rick

Green Vegtables Good?
I am not a good vegetable eater, but apparently broccoli has the capacity to fight prostate cancer by altering the activity levels of genes linked to tumor growth. Who would have thought that?
In this new study, scientists made their test subjects add either peas or broccoli to their normal diets for a year and found that the broccoli-rich diet produced positive changes in gene activity that would likely prevent or slow cancer growth and inflammation in the prostate.
There was no word in the report that said anything about how the peas worked out. I can go peas, but broccoli I'm not so sure of.
So, I guess all of those mothers out there might have been onto something when they encouraged us to eat green vegetables.
Have a good Thursday.
Blessings,
Rick

It's A Great Family
If you are newly diagnosed with prostate cancer, you will soon learn just how much help there is in this world to assist you in this battle.
I have met so many great people since I was diagnosed in February of 2005. Everyone from the people I spoke to while doing my research as to what treatment to choose, to people I meet on a daily basis through this blog or any other venue.
I like to think that everything bad comes to us through the fallenness of this world and everything good comes from God. Because God is all powerful, nothing bad can happen to us unless He allows it to happen. I marvel at how He turns bad things into good things if we have the attitude to see them.
So I have to believe that I can use cancer that is a part of this world to turn a bad thing into good with God's help. I don't mean to get preachy, but is there anyone of us that thinks we are mightier than God and don't need His assistance to get through this challenge?
Have a good Wednesday.
Blessings,
Rick

Homework Mandatory
Well, I'm back from vacation and had a great time with my family in Louisvile. We checked out the Louisville Slugger bat factory and saw Church Hill Downs. I didn't have any trouble keeping my money in my pocket there, but saw many people betting alot of money. It seems to go easy enough without just giving it away to a horse.
While I was in Louisville I heard from two men who had just been diagnosed and were seeking information about proton beam therapy. I am always glad to hear of men who are doing their homework and checking out what is available to treat cancer. I believe too many men just go with what their doctor says and they neglect other options.
The five proton centers are getting swamped with calls about treatment. So much so that there is getting to be quite a backlog in just getting a consult. More centers are being built at this time, but won't be online until next summer.
Have a good Tuesday.
