Proton Beam Doesn't Alter Ones Life

I have had numerous contacts lately about the availability of the treatment I had for my cancer three years ago.
Like I have mentioned before, proton beam therapy can now treat 44 different types of cancer, including breast cancer. That's right, breast cancer. My guess is that you have never heard that before, unless you are regular to my blog.
With the recent news questioning PSA screenings and colonoscopies of men over 75 and news that Medicare is trying to cut costs related to that, I have spoken with people who are finding that it is becoming harder to get their proton beam therapy covered by Medicare.
The insurance companies site costs as the deciding factor and I fully understand that. They have stockholders to satisfy. But they also have an obligation to those they insure.
I spoke with a woman the other day who has been battling cancer for over a decade. The chemo has been brutal to her and the costs of her treatment has reached several thousand dollars each month. She mentioned that her feet and hands feel like they are on fire because of the drugs.
She asked me how I was doing and I struggled to tell her, because, thankfully, I haven't gone through any of that thanks to proton beam therapy.

There is treatment out there for cancer (proton beam therapy) that doesn't alter ones life. Unfortunately, it's not available here in this area.
A doctor mentioned to me in September that it would never be available here.

I stop and ask myself, why? Could it be that the doctors would fight it coming in any way they could? After all, they don't have the expertise and therefore, couldn't gain financially from it.

Have a good Thursday.
Blessings,
Rick

Be Sure To Vote Tomorrow

This site isn't meant to be political in any way, but I want to encourage all of you to get out to vote tomorrow.
With all of the talk about healthcare, it could be interesting to see who will be the better candidate to helping provide the best care.

Have a ood Monday.
Blessings,
Rick
