Even Darth Vader Couldn't Evade Cancer

The man behind the mask of Darth Vader has revealed he is battling cancer. British actor David Prowse, who appeared as Darth Vader in the original Star Wars films, has been undergoing radiotherapy for prostate cancer for two months. But the 73-year-old said he was making good progress and felt 'fantastic' despite his condition. Prowse is undergoing final treatment at the Royal Marsden in London.

Cancer is no respecter of persons.

Have a good Thursday.

Blessings,
Rick

Walter Reed and HIFU

Walter Reed Army Medical Center is the latest to join several academic centers for a clinical trial investigating the safety and efficacy of High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) using the Sonablate(R) 500 for the treatment of locally recurrent prostate cancer following failed external beam radiation therapy (EBRT). The technology is a minimally invasive, outpatient procedure using a transrectal probe to focus ultrasound energy resulting in a rise in the heat within the prostate, causing destruction of prostatic tissue. In a small U.S. safety trial, 91 percent of study participants treated had a negative biopsy at six months. Eligible participants must be between the ages of 40 and 80, and have biopsy confirmed local recurrence two or more years following external beam radiation failure, in addition to meeting other selection criteria.

Progress continues to be made in treating prostate cancer.

Have a good Wednesday.
Blessings,
Rick

Don Imus Reports He Has Prostate Cancer

NEW YORK – Don Imus has prostate cancer — and confidence in a full recovery.
The 68-year-old radio personality made the announcement Monday on his morning show from New York, which airs on ABC Radio Networks and cable's RFD-TV. He said he wrestled with the idea of making it public, but figured he should because he might have to miss some work due to treatment.
Imus, who has a charity to help children with cancer, said he has early stage cancer, which means it hasn't spread outside the prostate.

I did contact Mr. Imus just to let him know that Proton Beam therapy is an option to him. With Protons he would be able to be treated and do his radio show without missing a day. And what a great opportunity to let people learn about this amazing cure for cancer.

Have a good Tuesday.

Blessings,
Rick
